Listening To The Father’s Heart

Listening To The Father’s Heart

Son, when your life is devoted to satisfying lesser desires, you begin arranging all your days for that express purpose. This leads to idolatry and a spirit of entitlement. You begin serving the god of “feel better.” Encounters with extreme pain bring you to a crossroads of choice; you are enticed with options of bitterness, victimization, even hedonism. Anything to distract you, any place you can lose yourself andescape the uncomfortable, painful feelings. Many do not understand that these times are meant to lead you to discover a new capacity for meaning, purpose and even joy. Soul-pain is not something to avoid; it is to be embraced. You will find a dimension of me in the midst of your despair which you never knew existed. Do not deny the pain or medicate it; let it accomplish its work deep in your soul. It is a strange thing, but in this process you will discover how much you actually love me, and how much I love you.

O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. Jeremiah 4:19
