Listening To The Father’s Heart

Listening To The Father’s Heart

Son, close your eyes and think about the most loving and caring person you have ever known. I don’t mean someone you knew about, but someone you knew personally. You experienced their love for you. Now imagine someone who is infinitely more loving, more sacrificial on your behalf and continually thinking about you. That is me, son. My thoughts toward you would outnumber the grains of sand, were you to count them. If your experience of me is limited only to your thoughts about me, then you have never had a personal encounter with me. This is the difference between theology and experience. I made you for relationship, with me and with others. My son Paul came to understand this distinction. In his letter to the Ephesians, he wrote: “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Eph 3:14-19). Let my love penetrate every fiber of your being.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.Psalm 139:17-18
